Is my phone eSIM compatible and unlocked?

Learn how to check whether an iPhone or Android phone supports eSIM and whether a network lock could prevent installation.

Model name alone is not always enough

A phone model may support eSIM in one market but not another. Features can also differ by regional variant, mobile network and software version. The most reliable check is the device’s own settings together with the manufacturer’s specification for your exact model number.

Check on iPhone

  • Open Settings, General and About.
  • Look for an EID entry. An EID normally indicates eSIM hardware is present.
  • Open Settings and Mobile Service or Cellular, then look for Add eSIM.
  • In About, check Network Provider Lock or Carrier Lock. It should indicate that there are no SIM restrictions.

Check on Android

  • Open Settings and search for eSIM, SIM manager or Download a SIM.
  • Look for an Add eSIM or Add mobile plan option.
  • Check the exact model number in About phone against the manufacturer’s regional specification.
  • If the phone came from a mobile network, ask that network whether it is unlocked for other SIM profiles.
Good to know: Android menus vary by manufacturer, country and software version. The absence of one particular menu name does not by itself prove that the device is incompatible.

Check before purchasing

An eSIM plan cannot add eSIM capability to an unsupported device or remove a carrier lock. Confirm both compatibility and unlocked status before checkout.
