Staying connected while island-hopping in Thailand
Prepare mobile data for Bangkok, overland transfers, ferries and Thai islands without assuming that signal continues offshore or in every remote area.
Treat each transfer as its own journey
A Thailand itinerary can move from strong urban coverage to long road transfers, ferry terminals and smaller islands. Mobile data helps with maps and changing arrangements, but the water between destinations and more remote areas can still produce natural gaps.
Save the details that matter before boarding
- Screenshot the ferry operator, departure point and check-in time.
- Save the accommodation name, address and contact details.
- Download an offline map of the arrival area.
- Keep onward transport instructions available without a connection.
- Do not depend on continuous service during boat journeys.
Choose an allowance for a photo-heavy trip
Navigation and messaging are usually modest data users. Automatic photo backup, short video and uploading content from beach days are not. Turn off cloud backup on mobile data or choose an allowance with enough room for the way you actually share the trip.
Install first, activate according to the plan
Prepare the eSIM over reliable Wi-Fi before departure. Check whether validity starts on installation or on the first supported network connection, then keep the travel line switched off until the instructions tell you to use it.
